The mystique of Ulun Danu Bratan
The beautiful temple Ulun Danu Bratan lies on a small peninsula on the shore of Lake Bratan. This lake plays an important role in irrigating the area and the southern part of the island; that is why the temple complex is dedicated to Dewi Danu, the goddess of water.
Shrouded in a mysterious fog
Located at an elevation of 1200 metres, the temple is surrounded by mountains and has a mild climate. It is often quite foggy at this altitude, lending an additional air of mystery to Ulun Danu. The temple is less than an hour drive from Ubud, a ride along the hills of the volcano to Bratan Lake and the temple. But the trip is hardly a hardship: the landscape is dotted with rice paddies, lakes, picturesque villages - all set in the fertile green area around the mountain lake.
One with nature in Bedugul
The area around the temple begs to be explored – on foot with a guide, by taxi or with a scooter. The beautiful landscape around the lake is a must see. Visit the Bali Botanic Garden in Bedugul to admire more than 2000 plants and flowers spread out over 150 hectares. In addition to the flora there is also an enormous statue of the mythical figure Kumbhakarna. There is plenty of accommodation in the region so you can spend the night here; choose from affordable budget hotels to luxury resorts.
